Storing 3 bits of data per cell, TLC flash is the cheapest form of flash to manufacture. Its biggest disadvantage is lower endurance, so it is usually suitable for consumer workloads rather than industrial workloads.
Pros: Even lower production costs than MLC.MLC flash stores multiple bits of data in one cell. The main benefit is lower manufacturing cost than SLC, while endurance is still stronger than TLC in many cases.
Pros: Lower production costs are passed on to the consumer.SLC flash stores one bit per cell. It has the strongest endurance and reliability characteristics, but it is also the most expensive flash type.
Pros: Longest lifespan and highest reliability.Apart from SSD memory type, the controller inside the drive is also very important. That is why some TLC-based drives can outperform MLC-based drives in practice.
Please note that SSD drives are not designed as permanent offline storage without power for very long periods. Wear level, storage temperature, and working temperature all affect data retention time.
